Saving money is easier than you think

That is the biggest problem - you need to think about it. Why do we spend money? We spend for life's necessities like housing, clothes, and food. But then we also spend for our wants - designer shoes or a hot new stereo system. Spending for our wants makes us feel good in the short run but not so good in the long run.

Think before you spend. The question you need to ask yourself is "Do I need this item, or can I do without it in exchange for a greater goal?" It is hard to save just for the purpose of saving. You need to have a goal to make your efforts more satisfying.

Ten Tips for Saving Money:

1. Spend less
2. Establish a budget and stick to it
3. Buy in bulk but make sure you need what you buy
4. Watch for sales - but make sure they're real sales and not marketing gimmicks
5. Buy used - often the quality's the same, but the cost is much less
6. Eliminate excessive debt - monthly interest is a gross waste of money
7. Pay yourself first - send yourself a bill and pay it every month
8. Shop wisely - don't buy what you don't need
9. Eat in - not out
10. Don't waste - use less
